How long does it take to have your chimney swept?

It takes about an hour to do a complete inspection and sweep including set up and clean up for your average one story home. We will take all the time necessary to be sure all your questions are answered.

How often should you have your chimney swept?

According to the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), you should have your chimney inspected annually. The frequency of sweepings is going to depend on many variables including usage, type of wood, and type of fireplace system.

My fireplace sometimes smells, especially during the summer when it is hot and humid. Can this be fixed?

This smell, which can be described as a stale campfire smell, comes from a flow reversal “downdraft” that is common when it is hot and humid. You can reduce your smell by having your system inspected and swept. The damper system will also be tuned to ensure a proper fit. There are also deodorizers available to help those really bad situations.

Do I need to have my chimney for my gas appliance serviced?

Yes, gas appliances venting through a chimney or venting system also need to have an annual inspection completed to make sure the vent is functioning correctly.

Do I need to service a chimney with a gas log?

Yes, gas logs also give off a carbon soot that can collect on the logs, safety controls, and the flue. The CSIA and NFPA recommend these units be inspected and serviced annually.

Does the chimney sweeping log work?

The question is, do you rinse your teeth with mouthwash or do you actually brush your teeth? If you brush, do you still go to the dentist to have a checkup? A chimney sweep will check your fireplace system and also complete the brushing that the chimney sweeping log cannot do.
